And no, I haven’t seen it because it has not yet graced the city of Philadelphia (it opened in NYC, but of course, and opens in select cities March 27th, San Francisco/L.A on April 3rd) with its presence, so unfortunately I can’t really expound much upon this news except for saying that the doc looks like an oh-so tasty fashion tartlet.
Essentially, this is a feature-length film depicting Valentino—the man, the legend, the fashion house–in the wake of the designer’s 2008 departure from his company. The documentary recounts the history of the couturier’s life and career within the greater context of issues proper to the fashion industry today. Apparently, the film also focuses on the designer’s close relationship with his business partner and companion of 50 years, Giancarlo Giammetti.
If you IMDB this bad-boy all sorts of crazy celeb cameos abound; it looks like Tom Ford, Karl Lagerfeld, Gwyneth Paltrow and gal pal Madonna (sigh, of course these two), Claudia Schiffer, Donatella Versace, Diane Von Fürstenburg, and Anna Wintour (wearing mink or not wearing mink, that is the question–TBD!) all make an appearance in the film. Brace yourselves; if we’re lucky we might even catch D.Versace’s lip augmentations in a sentimental quiver.
