Thanks to my friend Leah for immediately calling my attention these “suicide shoes” put forth by Olivier Theyskens for Nina Ricci yesterday in Paris.
All together now: DAMN, Nina!
We all know platforms are back with vengeance, but you ain’t gonna find these suckers at Baker’s, that’s for sure.
Although if you ask me, all shoes aside, the real stars of the N.R. show were the gorgeous, perfectly-crafted gowns in stunning jewel tones: red, turquoise, magenta, and black. I have to say, this nails every single one of my favorite colors. Big smiles. Big ones. Theyskens successfully abandons the “flou” for a more sternly structured look, and surprisingly, renders this concept of what appears to be structured eveningwear not only possible, but enormously successful. Don’t look for any chiffon or satin here. But the dresses are divine, dahling, dee-vine.
Oh, and one must also note that Theyskens himself has been spotted donning high-heeled boots à la Roi Soleil. Practice what you preach, girls!
Theysken deserves props on both fronts: both the practicing and the preaching. There are rumors swirling around that this could possibly be the designer’s last collection for Nina Ricci.
After a show like this–I sure as hell hope not. What more does the House want–breakfast in bed?
Regardless, this is a heck of a final bow.
